Current Poll Question:

Background: In its recently-released indicators report, the Northwest Indiana Quality of Life Council called on political leaders in the region to undertake the development of a comprehensive land use plan through the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission. The report noted the potential values of certain major transportation improvements that have been proposed (e.g., the Westlake corridor of the South Shore Rail line and the Illiana Expressway). In the absence of a comprehensive land use plan, however, the report recommended that these projects not be pursued to completion. Lacking such a plan, improvements of this kind could be expected to contribute significantly to additional sprawl.

Question: Should a comprehensive land use plan be developed before transportation projects such as the Westlake Corridor and the Illiana Expressway are pursued to completion?

Yes No
