Nominations are now open for the 2009 Quality of Life Council Awards and will be accepted through Monday, August 9th.

For the past eight years the Northwest Indiana Quality of Life Council has recognized outstanding individuals who have made a significant contribution toward the improvement of Northwest Indiana’s shared quality of life.  The Council seeks the names of those who have had a major impact in the areas of economic development, environmental well-being and/or social inclusion.

There are three categories of awards:

  1. Outstanding Contribution - focuses on individuals whose community involvement and impact are well beyond the bounds of many others.
  2. Lifetime Achievement - recognition of efforts made over a long period of time.
  3. The Promise of the Future Awards - for youth who are making a difference by their efforts. These are presented to young people under the age of 21.

The Quality of Life Council focuses on a broad range of public policy issues pertaining to Lake, Porter, and LaPorte Counties.  It is chaired on a rotating basis by the Presidents and Chancellors of the six colleges and universities in Northwest Indiana.  The Council’s membership includes many of the major employers and institutions in our region, as well as an additional 150 individuals who are key community leaders from all walks of life, including business, labor, the faith community, the nonprofit sector, academia, and the environmental community.

The 2009 awards will be presented at a luncheon on Wednesday, September 15 at the Avalon Manor on Rte. 30 in Hobart. Mark your calendar now.

Nomination forms can be accessed on the QLC website at www.nwiqlc.org. We have also attached one for you. Nominations are due by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 9th.
